Meet Ashley

Hi, I'm Ashley.

Some people may know me by my maiden name, Ashley Steeves, while others know me as Ashley Whitt. However you found your way here, I'm glad you're here.

I'm a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI), graduate student, author, musician, photographer, Reiki practitioner, and lifelong learner from Wisconsin. I currently work with Low Incidence Consulting Services (LINCS) as a TSVI while pursuing my master’s degree in special education with a visual impairment specialization through the University of North Dakota.

I wear many hats, but at the heart of everything I do is a desire to help people learn, grow, and see possibilities that they may not have seen before.

Whether I'm teaching braille, photographing a lighthouse, playing the harp, creating tactile materials, or working on a new writing project, I believe that every experience has a story worth sharing.

A Few Things About Me

🎄 Christmas is my favorite season.
I have spent almost 25 years working with Santa and earned the nickname "Prancer" when I was 15 years old. The nickname has stuck ever since.

🪉 I'm a musician at heart.
While the harp is my primary instrument, I also play piano, string bass, and several others. Whether performing, practicing, simply playing for enjoyment, or exploring sound and vibrations, music is an important part of who I am.

📷 I see the world through a photographer’s lens.
Whether I’m using my camera or my phone, I love documenting the places I visit, the things I notice, and the moments that make me smile. I am always looking for interesting perspectives.

🐱 Most of my projects have two unofficial assistants.
My cats, Luna and Jolie, can usually be found nearby whenever I'm reading, writing, studying, or working on something creative.

📚 Reading is one of my favorite ways to unwind.
Whether I'm learning something new or escaping into a good story, there's usually a book somewhere nearby.

🎓 Curiosity has taken me down many paths.
From education and leadership to music, photography, creativity, sound healing, and personal growth, I enjoy learning new things and discovering where they might lead.

My Journey

My journey has never followed a straight line, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Throughout my life, curiosity has led me in many different directions. Music, education, photography, writing, leadership, creativity, and sound healing have each played a role in shaping who I am and how I see the world. While some of those interests began as hobbies and others as opportunities, each one has taught me something valuable and opened doors that I never expected.

One unexpected part of my journey has been finding my place in the field of visual impairment. What began as a role as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Assistant eventually led me to become a TSVI. Today, I work with Low Incidence Consulting Services (LINCS) as a TSVI in southeastern Wisconsin while pursuing my master's degree in special education with a visual impairment specialization through the University of North Dakota. Along the way, I have discovered a passion for accessibility, lifelong learning, and helping others recognize their own strengths and potential.

Today, I continue to learn, create, and explore new opportunities while sharing the experiences, lessons, and stories that have shaped my path. Whether through education, music, photography, writing, or other creative pursuits, I believe growth often begins when we are willing to step outside of our comfort zones and embrace what comes next.

Though my interests may seem different on the surface, they all come back to the same idea: helping people connect, learn, grow, and see the world from a new perspective.
